Schedule: Thursday 10/27: Percussion Sectional 3:30-5, Full Rehearsal 5:30-8
Friday 10/28: Home Football Game (Senior Night!). Pregame rehearsal begins at 4:00 SHARP!
Tuesday 11/1: Color Guard Sectional 3-5pm, Post-season Party at CiCi’s on Rockville Pike 6-8pm
Thursday 11/3: Percussion rehearsal 4-8pm

On behalf of the Rockville High School Music Department, I would like to invite you to celebrate the selection of Eddie Kirk to the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.
Eddie is a senior at Rockville High School, and is one of 125 students selected out of thousands who auditioned for the band last spring. As a member of the USAAAMB he will receive an all-expenses paid trip to San Antonio, TX in January to march in the halftime performance of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodone.
We are very proud to celebrate this achievement with Eddie. He is the second student from Rockville High School to receive this honor in the past four years.
The ceremony will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 9:30am in the Zane Rush Auditorium at Rockville High School. We expect the ceremony to last approximately 30 minutes.

Here is some information regarding Friday and Monday for you. Students will receive hard copies of the info sheets tomorrow evening.
Friday: Pep Rally - Wear your RHSMB polo shirt to school all day on Friday. - At the beginning of 7th period, check in with your 7th period teacher and then report immediately to the Band Room. - We will tune, warm up, and them move to the gym for the pep rally. - Be prepared to play the Fight Song (Hats Off to Thee), and any stand tunes. - You will stay with the band throughout the Pep Rally. If you are on a fall sports team, please let me know at Thursday’s rehearsal so we can coordinate that part of the pep rally. - After the Pep Rally we will return to the Band Room and put our things away until Pregame Rehearsal at 4:00pm.
Friday: Home Football Game - This info sheet covers most everything you need to know for a typical home football game, and we will follow this basic schedule this week. - Be sure you have everything you need for the evening and be ready to go on the field at 4:00!
Monday: Labor Day Parade - This info sheet should provide all the info you need.

This event is completely optional, but it would be great if you could make it out! We are fortunate here at RHS to have great relationships with all the groups associated with “Friday Night Lights,” and part of that is due to the fact that we all chip in for events like this one!
Rams Football Club would like to cordially invite you all to the football season kick-off, picnic & silent auction! The Auction is Saturday, August 27, 2011, from 3:00-6:00 pm . Please invite your students and athletes to the picnic & silent auction in the Rockville High Cafeteria. If you plan to attend, please bring one of the following items! RFC will provide the meal course and all the paper products and the football parents will provide the side dishes! Also, if you choose to, please have your group put together some sort of theme basket or donation, so you can earn some money as well (any auction item you provide for the auction, all proceeds from the sales will go to your group). Good morning!
It has been a great three days of camp so far, and I’m looking forward to the students arriving shortly to begin our fourth day!
I wanted to take a few moments to remind you of some upcoming events with the RHS Marching Band:
- Tonight (8/11) is the DCI World Championship Quarterfinals Simulcast in movie theatres nationwide. This is a great opportunity to see the world’s best marching ensembles as they compete for a spot in the finals later this week. The show starts at 6:30pm, and the closest theatres that are showing it are in Germantown and Columbia. Go to www.dci.org/cinema for more info and to purchase tickets!
- Tomorrow (8/12) is our trip to the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC for the Friday Evening Parade, featuring “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, the U.S. Marine Silent Drill Team, and the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps. An information sheet for the trip was distributed to students on Tuesday (if you need another copy please contact me and I will email you one). We still have spots available for family members who would like to join us (at no cost!). Please let me know today if you would like to come with us!
- Next week, camp continues 4pm-8pm each day, and next Friday (8/19) is our annual Parent Meeting and Show & Tell performance. The Parent Meeting is at 5:30 in the Band/Orchestra Room (#1084) and the Show & Tell Performance will begin at 6:30 in the front parking lot.
It is imperative that at least one parent attend the parent meeting, and please feel free to bring as many friends and family as possible to our Show & Tell performance!

The annual Music Department Potluck Dinner is next Thursday, May 19th at 7:00pm in the RHS Cafeteria.
This is a great event where we honor the achievements of our music students, reflect on what we've done and what's to come, and enjoy good food and good company! The Potluck Dinner is open to all Music students, as well as their family and friends. We will have the dinner, an awards ceremony and a slideshow.

A couple of months ago, I sent an email asking for feedback to see if we could help the Good Counsel Music Program run a Concession Stand at the upcoming US Open golf tournament at Congressional Country Club.

The United States Navy Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Navy. Here are the changes we’ve had to make to the itinerary for the Towson Jazz Festival due to yesterday’s snow day:
Tomorrow’s dress rehearsal will now be from 12:15pm until 1:30pm. Please report to the band room as soon as you are done with your 6th period exam tomorrow so we can try to get started as close to 12:15 as possible. The 1:30 end time is firm, as I have to go over to Wood to audition 8th graders as soon as our rehearsal is over.
On Friday: Please come to school dressed for the festival, and report to the band room to load cars and leave as soon as you are finished with your 7th period exam. You will not have time to change after your exam. My goal is to be on the road by 9:45am. (If you do not have a 7th period exam you need to be here by 9:25am. I will be giving a 7th period exam so please be considerate if you get here before 9:25.)

Good evening,
Once again RHS is hosting the MCPS Honors Auditions. For two nights, we will open our doors to almost 1000 students who are vying for a spot in one of the All-County Bands and Orchestras.
The audition dates are Tuesday, November 9th and Tuesday, November 16th.
We are in desperate need of help from both students and parents in order to make these auditions work. I need about 40 students each night in order to fully staff the spaces that will be used for the auditions. Each night is split into 3 shifts:
4:00pm-5:30pm (setting up rooms) 5:30pm-8:00pm 7:30pm-10:00pm (usually the students are out of here by 9:30)
Students can work as many shifts as they want, and will receive SSL hours for all time worked! At the moment, I only have about 10-15 students each night....so if you (or your child) can help please see me ASAP! Dependable students who are not part of the Music Department are also welcome to help!
Additionally, we need some parent help with supervision and a bake sale, which we will use as a fundraiser. Susan Townsend-Gray, our FORM president, has prepared a letter and sign-up sheet for parents for both the auditions as well as next month's Winter Concerts. You can download a copy of her letter here.

I just found out that anyone 6 years of age and younger does not need a ticket. Anyone over 6 years old must pay $14 for a ticket, though.
I was not able to include this on the info sheet, so please plan accordingly.
Also, they have already announced a slight change to the schedule that was printed on the info sheet. Our performance time is not affected, but monitor http://www.marchingbandcontest.org/index.php?file_add=event_detail&eventid=UQG2Z%2009QHF%20PMJ5E%20UZWAM for the latest schedule updates.

Please be sure to buy your tickets from me in advance, rather than at the door. We have an obligation to the USSBA to sell at least 30 tickets! Tickets are $14 each (cash only please) for all ages.

Quick snack. Change into uniform and unload equipment. 5:30pm Warm-up. 6:30pm March to gate. 6:39pm At gate. 6:52pm PERFORMANCE!!! 7:05pm Photo session. Return to buses to load equipment change out of uniform. 8:00pm Return to the stadium for dinner and to watch remaining bands. 10:15pm Awards Ceremony. 10:45pm Return to buses. 11:00pm Depart Towson. 12:00am Arrive at RHS. Unload buses and equipment. 12:15am Dismissed.
Notes for Students: · All MCPS and RHS rules and policies are in effect for the entire duration of the trip. · Wear your RHSMB t-shirt for rehearsal, and underneath your uniform. · Wear appropriate clothing underneath your uniform. Remember, you will be changing on the bus! · Be sure you have all uniform parts (including black socks), all instrument/equipment parts, and appropriate clothing. · Keep an eye on the weather forecast as we approach the competition date. · Keep in mind that you’ll be sitting in the stands rather than moving around before our performance. A jacket and/or blanket may be appropriate! · You need to eat lunch before you come to rehearsal. We will provide a light snack for you after we arrive in Towson. After we perform, the concession stands at the stadium will be open for you to purchase dinner, or you may bring your own bag dinner. Once we are in uniform you may not eat until after we perform!
Notes for Parents: · Tickets will are available NOW from Mr. Barnes for $14 (CASH ONLY). Please have RHSMB fans buy their tickets from Mr. Barnes, rather than from the box office, because we have an obligation to sell at least 30 of them! The only people who do not need tickets are performers, instructional staff and pit crew. · Concessions will be available in the stadium during the event. · Airgrams, programs and merchandise will be available in the stadium during the event. · DVD’s of the band’s performance will be on sale. They will be shipped via mail approximately 4-6 weeks after the show. You can purchase our band’s performance only, all performances from our group, or the awards ceremony. It will be a multi-camera DVD with cameras on the field, from the side, and from the press box. · Jolesch Photography will be on site to take action and group images of the band. - Only those people who will be on the field with the band when they perform (students, instructional staff and pit crew) do NOT need to purchase a ticket for the show. Everyone else needs to.

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to touch base with you to make sure everyone is on the same page with the marching band season.
- First, thank you for your flexibility regarding tonight's rehearsal. Due to the event in the auditorium, we are moving full band rehearsal up an hour tonight, so we will go from 4:30 until 7. Color guard will still have sectionals from 3 until 4pm. There will be no drumline sectionals today.
- Next week we have our away game trip to Wheaton HS. The info sheet for the trip can be found in the files section of the website. Hard copies will be available at tonight's rehearsal.
- At the request of many parents and students, we will add a rehearsal in on Friday, October 15th from noon until 3pm to make up for the one we are losing on the 14th due to the football game being moved to that night. This rehearsal is posted on the calendar on the website. Please make every effort to be at this rehearsal....it will do us no good if we have to deal with too many holes because of absences!
- I am still waiting for a final schedule from the USSBA for our competition on the 16th, but it looks like we will perform sometime around 6pm. Call time at RHS will be somewhere around 11am. I should have an info sheet out sometime next week.
- In the meantime, tickets are now available for sale from me! Tickets are $14 each (CASH ONLY). Please have all RHSMB fans buy their tickets from me, rather than at the stadium, because we have an obligation to sell at least 30 tickets to the show!
I can't stress enough how much I have enjoyed this season so far. We have learned more drill in the past two weeks than we have in entire past seasons! Please keep up the hard work, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the schedule.
