Good morning!
First, I hope everyone is still riding the “high” from last Saturday….I know I am!
I want to make sure everyone is on the same page regarding our last couple of weeks of rehearsals:
Schedule:
Thursday 10/27: Percussion Sectional 3:30-5, Full Rehearsal 5:30-8
- Please don’t forget to look at the “Federal Funding” tune, and make sure you have ALL stand tunes as this will be mostly a music rehearsal!
Friday 10/28: Home Football Game (Senior Night!). Pregame rehearsal begins at 4:00 SHARP!
- Seniors: I must have your escort info emailed to me by TODAY if you want to participate in the senior recognition activities!
- The recognition will take place at the end of halftime, immediately after our performance.
Tuesday 11/1: Color Guard Sectional 3-5pm, Post-season Party at CiCi’s on Rockville Pike 6-8pm
- Guard: You will be using this time to clean up the uniform closet and put the guard equipment away for the season.
- Please RSVP to me by TOMORROW with how many people from your family are coming to CiCi’s.
- We do receive a reduced rate for dinner that evening. I will give you the final pricing info at tomorrow’s rehearsal.
Thursday 11/3: Percussion rehearsal 4-8pm
- This is to prepare for the Northwood Drumline Showcase.
- There will be a short break during the rehearsal, so be sure to bring a snack!
Saturday 11/5: Northwood Percussion Showcase: An info sheet will go out to the percussionists tomorrow, but here are some quick details:
- Percussionists will need to report to Northwood HS by 5:00pm in full uniform.
- The showcase begins at 6:00pm, and I expect it to last about 2 hours.
- You’ll need to find your own transportation to and from Northwood!
- Non-percussionists: Please come out and cheer on our percussion section! Tickets are $8 adults/$6 MCPS students (with ID)/free for children under 5.
- We will need some parent help for this. I have added it to our SignUpGenius site (http://signupgenius.com/go/rhsmarching). Please sign up if you can help!
Looking ahead:
- I’ll have the link for the post-season survey out next week. It’s important to me to get feedback from both students and parents about this season so I can plan for future seasons. Please plan to take a few minutes to complete it!
- I am working on taking the marching band over to Wood to perform sometime in December. Stay tuned for details!
Thanks!

On behalf of the Rockville High School Music Department, I would like to invite you to celebrate the selection of Eddie Kirk to the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.
Eddie is a senior at Rockville High School, and is one of 125 students selected out of thousands who auditioned for the band last spring. As a member of the USAAAMB he will receive an all-expenses paid trip to San Antonio, TX in January to march in the halftime performance of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at the Alamodone.
We are very proud to celebrate this achievement with Eddie. He is the second student from Rockville High School to receive this honor in the past four years.
The ceremony will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 9:30am in the Zane Rush Auditorium at Rockville High School. We expect the ceremony to last approximately 30 minutes.
If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP to me as soon as possible (Phillip_P_Barnes@mcpsmd.org or 301-517-5590) to confirm your attendance. I will contact you again as we get closer to the date of the ceremony to finalize the details for you. Do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions or concerns!

Please see below for information regarding the annual football/marching band/pipe band/cheerleaders/poms picnic.
This event is completely optional, but it would be great if you could make it out! We are fortunate here at RHS to have great relationships with all the groups associated with “Friday Night Lights,” and part of that is due to the fact that we all chip in for events like this one!
Rams Football Club would like to cordially invite you all to the football season kick-off, picnic & silent auction! The Auction is Saturday, August 27, 2011, from 3:00-6:00 pm . Please invite your students and athletes to the picnic & silent auction in the Rockville High Cafeteria. If you plan to attend, please bring one of the following items! RFC will provide the meal course and all the paper products and the football parents will provide the side dishes! Also, if you choose to, please have your group put together some sort of theme basket or donation, so you can earn some money as well (any auction item you provide for the auction, all proceeds from the sales will go to your group). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 301-928-1261 or my my email!
Thank you all and hope to see you all at the picnic/auction!
Marching and Pipe Bands - Drinks (RFC will have gallon containers of ice tea and lemonade - FYI!)
Cheerleaders and Poms- Desserts
Have a great day!

Good morning!
It has been a great three days of camp so far, and I’m looking forward to the students arriving shortly to begin our fourth day!
I wanted to take a few moments to remind you of some upcoming events with the RHS Marching Band:
- Tonight (8/11) is the DCI World Championship Quarterfinals Simulcast in movie theatres nationwide. This is a great opportunity to see the world’s best marching ensembles as they compete for a spot in the finals later this week. The show starts at 6:30pm, and the closest theatres that are showing it are in Germantown and Columbia. Go to www.dci.org/cinema for more info and to purchase tickets!
- Tomorrow (8/12) is our trip to the Marine Barracks in Washington, DC for the Friday Evening Parade, featuring “The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band, the U.S. Marine Silent Drill Team, and the U.S. Marine Drum & Bugle Corps. An information sheet for the trip was distributed to students on Tuesday (if you need another copy please contact me and I will email you one). We still have spots available for family members who would like to join us (at no cost!). Please let me know today if you would like to come with us!
- Next week, camp continues 4pm-8pm each day, and next Friday (8/19) is our annual Parent Meeting and Show & Tell performance. The Parent Meeting is at 5:30 in the Band/Orchestra Room (#1084) and the Show & Tell Performance will begin at 6:30 in the front parking lot.
It is imperative that at least one parent attend the parent meeting, and please feel free to bring as many friends and family as possible to our Show & Tell performance!
As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. This is already shaping up to be a great season!
