President’s Report: Holly Shropshire reported that it was a fantastic year in marching band. Thanks and congratulations were expressed to Susan Townsend-Gray for being the marching band mom in charge. Holly reminded the group that students will need to do two jobs during the basketball season.
Secretary’s report: Beth Peterson circulated a report on the October meeting. The names of people in attendance at the meeting were corrected. The Secretary’s report was accepted with corrections.
Treasurer’s report: The FORM Amazon account is doing well. The Panera fundraiser brought 236.10 into the FORM account. There is a $1,500 cost to be paid for Innesbrook that will come out of the reported income. Nov. 20 is the next restaurant fundraiser planned. This will take place at Urban BBQ and Menchies. Little Caesers gave 16 pizzas to the marching band free of charge. The Treasurer’s report was accepted.
Director’s Report: Ron Johnson reported that the Chamber Choir will perform on December 3 at the towers on Wooten Parkway. The students will also be performing at the “Empty Bowls” fundraiser. Choral students are also slated to perform at Bethesda’s Winter Wonderland on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2:00 to 2:15. Two sopranos from the choral department are auditioning for Junior All State and four students are auditioning for Senior All State. The winter concert is planned for December 10.
Phil Barnes reported that it has been a busy season. There has been much growth in Marching Band. The marching band placed first at Towson and fifth at Annapolis. All County auditions are scheduled at Rockville HS on November 19. Junior Honors are on November 12. More help is needed to run the auditions. Special clinicians will be scheduled to work with students. A brass master class will take place at Blake HS. The Pep Band will start in December. Instrumental students will be performing at Empty Bowls. The winter concerts will take place on December 10th and 17th. In the fall of 2014 the Navy band will perform at RHS. Phil talked about the need for an advocacy group that could represent music students in talking to the Board of Education. Phil maintains that one of the strongest arguments for involvement in music is the social and emotional learning that takes place. FORM should take on an advocacy role.
Old Business: Damaris reported that Innesbrook is ready to be delivered. There will be a two hour window for pick up. Leaf raking will take place at the Hormby residence the weekend before Thanksgiving. The date needs to be confirmed. One hundred percent of the money from that job will go toward the scholarship fund.
The orders from the wreath and poinsettia sale are being placed November 12. There will be two pick-up days this year. The sale was available on Paypal this year, but there was a transaction fee per order.
New business: Winter concerts. “A Sign-up Genius” coordinator is needed. Phil will do it for the bake sale at the winter concerts. Volunteers are needed to actually do the selling during the concerts. A wreath will be raffled off each night.
Dec. 18 is will be another fundraiser restaurant night. It will be at Villa Maya and Menchies.
8:00 Meeting finished.
